A power supply system (1) is provided with the following: a fuel cell (30) that produces electrical power by chemically reacting hydrogen and oxygen; a parallel-off unit (50) that supplies at least electrical power from an electrical power system or electrical power from the fuel cell (30) to a load (100) to be supplied with power; an electrolysis unit (80) that generates hydrogen and oxygen through the electrolysis of water; and a control unit (90) that, if the parallel-off unit (50) is not receiving power from the electrical power system or if the predicted amount of electrical power expected to be required by the load (100) exceeds a prescribed value, exerts control so that electrical power generated by the fuel cell (30) is supplied to the load (100), electrolysis is performed by the electrolysis unit (80) using such surplus power, and at least hydrogen or oxygen generated by the electrolysis unit (80) is supplied to the fuel cell (30). |
