[Class 18] A machine for folding box trays from blanks includes a plunger having portions co-operating with recesses in a die to cause interlocking between tabs on extensions of the box ends and tabs in the box sides. A suitable blank is described in Specification 590,829 and includes tabs 24, formed by cuts 55, 56, the edge formed by the cut 56 on each tab engaging that formed by a cut 26 in each side wall. The plunger 43 has wing portions 44 carrying projections 46 which co-operate with recesses 51 in rollers 31, 32 to open the cuts 26, the rollers 31, 32 folding up the box sides, as the plunger 43 descends. Further rollers 36, 37 fold up the box ends and cause the tabs 24 to enter the cuts 26. Stripping plates 58 remove the formed box on the plunger's return stroke. The plunger is actuated by cranks 74 and connecting rods 73 driven through a variable speed gear 79 by a motor 77. A conveyer 61 for removing formed boxes is chain driven from the crankshaft 76. Blanks are fed to the machine between guide rails 105, 107 and pushed into position against stops 41 by pushers 110. The pushers 110 are carried on arms 112 secured to a shaft 114 which is oscillated against a spring 116 by a crank arm 117 intermittently engaging a lever 123 secured to the shaft 114. |
