PURPOSE: A motion sensing method of a monitoring system is provided to perform a motion sensing function with a low specification processor by sensing the motion with a block unit. CONSTITUTION: A block unit motion sensing area is set up(S1). An average value of the block unit motion sensing area for frames is calculated(S2). A standard average value which is the average value of the block unit motion sensing area is calculated(S3). A target average value which is the average value of the block unit motion sensing area of a next frame is calculated(S4). When a difference of the target average value and the standard average value is over a threshold level, motion occurrence is temporarily determined(S7). When the motion occurrence is temporarily determined, a counter value is increased(S8).
