A method of producing an electrode structure for a solid polymer fuel cell, comprising the steps of: holding a polymer electrolyte membrane between a pair of electrode catalyst layers to integrate both the electrode catalyst layers and the polymer electrolyte membrane, so as to form an electrode structure; and applying an electric current of 0.1 A/cm2 or higher to the electrode structure for 5 hours or more in a humidified environment at a relative humidity of 60% or more.
