Viscose, cellulose acetate, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyhexamethylene adipamide, polyethylene terephthalate and urea-formaldehyde/alkyd resin compositions are coloured in the mass by incorporating a pigment or pigment composition comprising one or more of the compounds: <FORM:0948656/C3/1> and <FORM:0948656/C3/2> having a surface area of at least 10 square metres per gram. In examples, a pigment of the above type is incorporated into (5) an enamel comprising a urea-formaldehyde/alkyd resin solution in xylene: butanol and mixed with a similar enamel containing titanium dioxide; (6) polyvinyl chloride dioctyl phthalate and a paste containing basic lead carbonate, dibutyl phthalate and titanium dioxide; (7) polyethylene or polypropylene or (8) polystyrene, with or without titanium dioxide; (9) a viscose solution containing a -cellulose and (10) polyethylene terephthlate, to give red or pink compositions.ALSO:The invention comprises pigments containing one or more of the compounds anthraquinone- [1,2 - b; 5,6-b1] - bis - thiachromone and anthraquinone - [1,2 - b; 8,7 - b1] - bis - thiachromone having a surface area of at least 10 square meters per gram. The pigments are obtained from the corresponding crystalline by acid-pasting or salt-milling. Examples are given. |
