An ink composition for ink jet recording, comprising:
(a) a dispersoid comprising a water-dispersible a pigment; and
(b) polymer microparticles,
wherein the average particle diameter of the dispersoid is 20 to 300 nm,
wherein the polymer microparticles comprise a copolymer comprising (i) at least 70% by weight of alkyl (meth) acrylate repeating units including (ia) ethyl acrylate repeating units and/or cyclic alkyl (meth) acrylate repeating units, and (ib) (meth) acrylic acid repeating units, and (ii) repeating units of an ethylene based unsaturated monomer having a saturated or an unsaturated ring,
and wherein the glass transition temperature of the polymer microparticles is 0°C or less and the acid value thereof is 50 mgKOH/g or less.
