The management system has applications manager comprising a single object-oriented functional description of an automation system, based on an object meta-model, where the description comprises a set of composite functional objects each having a monitoring facet and a supervision facet. A projects manager comprises monitoring and supervision projects related to the automation system and to which the facets are assigned, respectively. A part of topological objects of a topologies manager are mapped with the facets of a part of the functional objects via mapping interfaces of the facets.
