<p>An introducer assembly (10, figure 1) is provided with a sheath (14) and a positioning device 20. The positioning device is able to be released or locked (clamped): when released it can be slid along the outer sheath of the catheter; otherwise it is locked to the sheath. The positioning device includes a coil spring 22 with a plurality of coil turns 24 able to apply an even compressive force to the sheath in all radial directions. Handles 42,44 are used to expand the spring to allow movement relative to the catheter and have channels 70,72 to receive the end wires 30,32 of the spring. An outer body 34 of the device may have interengaging fingers 46 52. The device is a clip which can prevent any further movement of the catheter into the body of a patient and may be used during the placement of a filter in the inferior vena cava.</p> |
