<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for fast geometric mode decision in a video encoder. <P>SOLUTION: An apparatus includes an encoder 100 for performing a non-exhaustive geometric mode decision using geometric model-based partitioning modes.
