A heat pump water heater (11) is provided with the following: a tank (15) for storing water; a refrigeration circuit (10) having a water heat exchanger (21); water guide paths (27, 29) for feeding the water stored in the tank (15) to the water heat exchanger (21), and for returning to the tank (15) the water having been heated inside the water heat exchanger (21); a first electrolysis device (1) having a first electrode pair (491) provided within a first water path (F1) upstream of the water heat exchanger (21) in a water flow path that includes the water guide paths (27, 29); a second electrolysis device (2) having a second electrode pair (492) provided within a second water path (F2) connected in parallel or in series with the first water path (F1), and provided upstream of the water heat exchanger (21) within the water flow path; and a power source (53) for applying a voltage to the first electrode pair (491) and the second electrode pair (492).
