1,264,642. Magnetized endless conveyers. H. GROSSJOHANN. 18 April, 1969 [20 April, 1968], No. 19953/69. Heading B8A. A conveyer for transporting cylindricalshaped ferromagnetic articles, comprises a pair of parallel endless chains 1, 1<SP>1</SP>, between which extend a plurality of cross-bars 3 at least every other of the cross-bars being magnetized. The cross-bars are so spaced that the distance between adjacent bars is less than the diameter of the articles 4 to be transported. As shown, the articles are cans having beaded ends. At a change of direction of the conveyer, the chains 1, 1<SP>1</SP> pass over a sprocket 8 having radial projections 9 which are magnetic. The cans are discharged (Fig. 12) by being dislodged by non- magnetic arms 26 of a return sprocket. The sprocket 26 may however be disposed adjacent a straight run of the chain (Fig. 8, not shown). In another arrangement (Fig. 14, not shown) a discharge sprocket (28) has arms which are magnetized more strongly than are the bars 3. The cans are thus drawn off on to the sprocket (28) and are prised off the latter by the action of a shoot (30). In a modification (Fig. 13, not shown), the sprocket is replaced by a magnetized surface (27). |
