Apparatus for the wet treatment of textile materials comprises a treatment bath 1 and at least one perforated roller 4 through which treatment liquid flows, there being provided a pump within the roller and treatment liquid in the bath in which the roller is at least partially immersed. The apparatus also comprises a filter 11 in the tank located between the pressure and suction portions of the roller and blocking means 6, e.g. a roller, to ensure that liquid emerging from one side of the drum at the pressure side must traverse the filter before re-entering the drum at the other side. The material is preferably penetrated by the liquid twice in each liquid circulation cycle. Guide rollers 5 may be situated in contact with the roller at the inlet and outlet to the bath. The pump within the roller may be of the gear or cross-current type. In a preferred embodiment, at least one baffle 9 is arranged between the outer periphery of the pump and the inner periphery of the roller. All components within the roller may form a unitary structure. A brush roller may be provided outside the pressure zone of the roller. In a further embodiment at least one steam jet may be arranged outside the roller to heat the material, and a vibrator may be provided to create a pulsating flow of liquid.
