Cigarettes in container 2 are discharged on to compartments 16 of belt 17 through shoot 19 carried by carriage 4 running on rails 3. Additionally the hopper is provided with belts 5 and 9 secured at 6 and 11 to the hopper and passing round rollers 8 and 9 and being wound on to rollers 9 and 14, the rollers being carried by carriage 4. The latter is reciprocated between the sides of the hopper by driving arm 25 coupled to pivoted arm 2 which co-operates with stops 24 and by means of gate 23 controls the discharge at the bottom of shoot 19. Rollers 18 and 15 are carried by the carriage 4 so as to open the compartments of belt 17 to receive the cigarettes. Operation.-Carrier 4 moves leftwards whilst belt 17 remains stationary so permitting the length of the belt to be filled by individual cigarettes. Carrier 4 thus moves leftwards to the wall 7 and then changes direction, being pushed rightwards by rod 25 whilst gate 23 closes a shoot 19. During this return movement the belt 17 is advanced one step. When carrier 4 reaches wall 12, the direction of movement of rod 25 is reversed and the cycle recommences. The carriage 4 may be pivotally mounted (Fig. 7, not shown). There may be a plurality of shoots 19 simultaneously feeding a container (43) (Fig. 8, not shown). In another modification (Fig. 7, not shown), the lower (discharge) end of the carriage 4 is fixed, and the cigarettes are discharged in relative coaxial succession on to a belt having a single longitudinallyextending groove.</p> |
