Embodiments of the present invention relate to a method and an apparatus for high-speed coding, for stopping coding of a coding unit (CU) using a quantized frequency conversion coefficient of a prediction unit (PU), which is previously coded. One embodiment of the present invention relates to a method for coding/decoding an image, and provides the method for coding/decoding the image, wherein coding of a current coding unit (CU) is stopped when a frequency conversion block of the a prediction unit (PU), which is coded prior to the current coding unit, does not include a value other than 0, thereby increasing the speed of compression.
