1,194,197. Gas turbine engine combustion equipment. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 2, 1967 [Jan. 3, 1967], No. 44650/67. Heading F1L. The invention relates to combustion equipment comprising an outer casing and an inner flame tube, the wall or walls of the flame tube being provided with circumferential stepped portions spaced along its length, the stepped portions having holes therethrough which are angled towards the inner surface downstream of the stepped portion for impingement of cooling air thereon. The invention is described with reference to combustion equipment of the wholly annular type, the outer wall 14 of the flame tube, having circumferential stepped portions 32 to which are secured cylindrical portions 34, 36. Holes 26 are formed in the web of the stepped portion, the holes being inclined so that cooling air flowing therethrough impinges against the inner surface of the flame tube wall downstream of the hole. The holes may be in the form of nozzles, Figs. 6 and 7, or they may be directed tangentially with an axial component, Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown). |
