1,202,069. Drying green crop. ALFA-LAVAL A.B. 17 Nov., 1967 [18 Nov., 1966], No. 52367/67. Heading F4G. A method of dehydrating green crop comprises compressing the crop, heating the compressed crop to between 100‹ and 170‹ C. and releasing at least some moisture given off by the crop while it is held in its compressed state so as to obtain a coherent end product. The crop may be heated indirectly by a water, steam or oil jacket or electrical means or directly in an electromagnetic field. As shown, green crop is fed to and compressed in pressure channel 3 by pistons 1, 2. The crop is heated in channel 3 by heating jacket 4 and space 5. The dried compressed crop is cut at Q to form wafers or briquettes. The channel 3 is divided by radial partitions into a number of spaces extending longitudinally. The channel 3, in the direction of crop flow, may be convergent and may comprise a first section with openings for release of mechanically expressed liquid, a second section with no openings and a third section with openings for the release of steam given off by the crop. The crop may be heated to different temperatures along its length of travel in channel 3. |
