The system (100) has a panel (101) comprising a photovoltaic cell and a direct current-output terminal (109) for outputting electrical energy generated by the cell. Another panel (103) has a photovoltaic cell and a direct current-output terminal (115) for outputting electrical energy. A converter system (105) has a direct current-input terminal (111) for converting direct current-voltage lying at the input terminal into alternating current-voltage. A switching system (141) electrically connects the input terminal with the terminal of the former cell or terminal of the latter cell. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a photovoltaic system.
