摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably seal porosities on the end face of a holey fiber even when using gas laser with lower output stability, such as carbon dioxide laser as a light source. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Laser beams from a light source 4 are passed through a cylindrical lens 5 and thereby, its optical intensity distribution is deformed in one of two directions perpendicular to each other on the cross-section of the laser beams and thus the optical intensity distribution in the corresponding direction is compressed. The laser beams are passed through a half mirror 6 and thus divided into two beams. One of them is reflected by mirrors 7, 8 an even number of times including reflection by the half mirror 6 and another an odd number of times, and thereby normal and reverse states of the optical intensity distribution in the two direction perpendicular to each other on the cross-section of the laser beams are generated. The two laser beams are multiplexed axially symmetrically in relation to the end face of the holey fiber 9 to make laser beams of which fluctuation of optical intensity in the two directions is suppressed.
