The device (1) has a fixing element (3) connected to a frame (4) for fixing a product gripping head. A vertical displacement unit formed by slides (5) displaces the fixing element with respect to the frame according to displacement direction. A displacement detector i.e. sensor (11), detects displacement of the element with respect to the frame. A connection unit connects the detector to a shut-down system of a machine. The element is mounted to pivot around a pivoting axle formed of pivot links (6, 10) approximately perpendicular to the direction. The slides are parallel to the direction.
