Production of isobutanol in recombinant yeasts

A method for the production of isobutanol comprising growing yeasts under conditions where isobutanol is produced and wherein the yeast comprises a gene encoding a cytosol-localized polypeptide having acetolactate synthase activity and is substantially free of enzymes having pyruvate decarboxylase activity and NAD-dependent glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase activity and produces isobutanol.
