摘要 PURPOSE: A method for controlling a vehicle engine is provided to reduce the amount of harmful substances in exhaust gas by reducing time for activating a catalyst converter and properly controlling the amount of the exhaust gas according to the driving situation. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling a vehicle engine comprises the following steps. Whether or not the temperature of an engine is below predetermined temperature is determined(S10). If the temperature of the engine is below the predetermined temperature, whether the speed of a vehicle is constant or decreases is determined according to the opening angle of an accelerator(S20). The amount of exhaust gas bypassing a turbocharger is controlled according to the speed of the vehicle(S30). Whether the temperature is below a first temperature(A1) or between the first temperature and a second temperature is determined. If the temperature of the engine is below the first temperature, the speed of the vehicle is determined as a constant speed. The temperature of the engine is between the first temperature and the second temperature and the opening angle of the accelerator is zero, the speed of the vehicle is determined as decelerating.
