<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a clutch mechanism for performing switchback by a simple configuration without using a separate actuator when performing the reverse operation of a switchback means of a paper discharge part for performing the switchback of a paper sheet with an image already formed on one surface thereof in the paper discharge part more on the downstream side than an image forming part, and switching normal and reverse rotations of the switchback means of the paper discharge part by the same drive source without damaging drive rigidity when performing drive connection of a carrying means such as a carrying belt and a carrying roller and an actuator. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: a re-feed means having first and second paper discharge rollers 20 and 21 capable of normal and reverse rotations for performing the switchback of paper sheets more on the downstream side than a carrying belt 11; a both-sided carrying path; a single carrying motor 9 for driving the carrying belt 11 and the first and second paper discharge rollers 20 and 21; a clutch mechanism (clutch control mechanism 60, clutch swing mechanism 61) arranged at a part excluding the drive system of the carrying motor 9 to switch the normal and reverse rotations of the first and second paper discharge rollers 20 and 21; and an operation means for operating the clutch mechanism.
