<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a control member from moving without reason before sure engagement of an optical fiber grasping member with the control member, when the optical fiber grasping member moving forward is engaged with the control member into one body. <P>SOLUTION: An optical connector includes a control member 21 which performs control for ensuing such an allowable gap m in the longitudinal direction of a coated optical fiber that the coated optical fiber does not buckle due to pressing force in a coating removal process of pressing the coated optical fiber grasped by an optical fiber grasping member 11 to a coating removing part to remove a coating of the coated optical fiber. A locking member 35 for locking forward movement of the control member is provided on a side surface of the control member 21. The optical fiber grasping member 11 has an arm 50 having, at a front end thereof, an engaging claw 50a to be engaged with the control member 21. The engaging claw 50a of the arm 50 of the optical fiber grasping member is brought into contact with the locking member 35 to unlock the control member and then is engaged with the control member.
