<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and image processing method which when reading and outputting data subjected to output restriction, reduces a workload on a user while reducing a risk of information leakage. <P>SOLUTION: When reading a document image, the image processing apparatus obtains original image data being the copy source of the read document image. Then, the image processing apparatus compares the read document image with the original image data being the copy source of the document image and extracts a difference image. In a case where it is determined that restriction information is added to the read document image, if an outputting object is a difference image, the image processing apparatus permits the user to output the difference image without requesting cancel operation to the user.
