Use of carboxylic acid esters as fuel, is claimed, where the carboxylic acid ester is the ester of a polyhydric carboxylic acid. Independent claims are included for: (1) lubricating a vehicle, machine or device comprising preparing or isolating the above carboxylic acid esters (as lubricant), applying the lubricant to the lubrication points or areas of the vehicle, machine or device and optionally deriving again the lubricant at later stage; and (2) operating a motor, preferably an internal combustion engine or single material motor comprising preparing or isolating carboxylic acid esters (as fuel) of polyhydric carboxylic acids, preferably oxalic acid, malonic acid, succinic acid, glutaric acid, adipic acid, pimelic acid, suberic acid, fumaric acid, maleic acid, phthalic acid, isophthalic acid, terephthalic acid, aconitic acid, citric acid and/or isocitric acid, and applying the fuel to the motor.
