The method involves packetizing of multiple basic bodies on a mandrel, and manipulating the basic body, which results in a uniform cylindrical outer peripheral surface (3) within a package (1). The packetized basic bodies are provided on outer peripheral surface area with a wear-resistant layer (4) of pre-settable layer thickness. The wear-resistant layer is processed in such a way that a bearing surface exits has an area of minimum layer thickness of the oil control piston ring (2). The outer circumferential surface of the packetized base body is machined by rotating cylindrical shape. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) an oil control piston ring with a tread pattern; and (2) a piston ring with a tread contour.
