<p>An optical coupler (100) for processing radiation is described. The optical coupler (100) comprises a first deep-shallow waveguide (102) and a second deep-shallow waveguide (104) for guiding radiation in a propagation direction. Each of the deep-shallow waveguides (102, 104) thereby are waveguides comprising a shallow etched portion (106, 108) and an unetched portion (110, 112) having a width substantially constant along the propagation direction. The width of the shallow etched portion (106, 108) furthermore is substantially larger than the width of the unetched portion (110, 112). The shallow etched portion (106) of the first deep-shallow waveguide (102) and the shallow etched portion (108) of the second deep-shallow waveguide (104) are arranged sufficiently close for coupling radiation from the first deep-shallow waveguide (102) to the second deep-shallow waveguide (104).</p> |
