PURPOSE: A method for shortening the activation time of a catalyst in a vehicle is provided to maximize the purification performance of a catalyst device by reducing the activation time of a catalyst through a heater by utilizing time before the engine cranking. CONSTITUTION: A method for shortening the activation time of a catalyst in a vehicle comprises following steps. The locking of a door is released. Whether or not an engine(1) is in an initial cold starting state is determined by detecting the temperature of coolant.
