PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for damping vibrations of a beam structure of a paper machine, a cardboard machine or a subsequent treatment device therefore. SOLUTION: In the method for damping vibrations of a static beam structure (1) of the paper machine, the cardboard machine or a subsequent treatment device thereof, a beam (1) is provided with a mass damper (3). The state of the system made up of the mass damper and beam is adjusted to allow measurement of a quantity indicating a resonance of the beam (1), and the position of the mass (5) in the damper (3) is varied so that an optimum damping is generated for at least one impulse.
