<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for compressing/filling a material to be packaged, by which the lightweight and bulky material to be packaged is compressed two or more times to be formed into small bulk and is packed in a packaging bag, consequently a part of the material to be packaged is restrained from protruding to the outside and the packaging capacity thereof is improved. <P>SOLUTION: Such a compression/filling means is arranged at a packing step that a funnel 21 having a discharge port to be opened/closed freely is arranged to be raised/lowered freely and a pushing bar 25 for pressing the material such as shaved dried bonito k, which is to be packaged and is charged in the funnel from a measuring means, is arranged to be moved vertically and freely. The work of compressing the material, which is to be packaged and is charged in the funnel from the measuring means two or more times, by the pushing bar 25 to have small bulk whenever the material to be packaged is charged or a predetermined number of times thereafter is repeated. Nearly concurrently with insertion of the moment the discharge port 22 of the funnel 21 into the mouth (b) of the packaging bag (a), the discharge port is opened and the material, which is to be packaged and has small bulk, is pushed/packed in the packaging bag by the pushing bar.
