<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and lightweight steering control system for preventing breakage of a component. <P>SOLUTION: An ECU 40 calculates a basic assist torque on the basis of a steering torque detected by a torque sensor 31. The ECU 40 calculates a corrected assist torque by correcting the calculated basic assist torque on the basis of a position of a rack 6. Specifically, the ECU 40 calculates the corrected assist torque by correcting the basic assist torque so that a value of the basic assist torque is reduced as the rack 6 moves from a predetermined first position near one end of a moving range to the side of the one end, or as the rack 6 moves from a predetermined second position near the other end of the moving range to the side of the other end. The ECU 40 determines either the basic assist torque or the corrected assist torque as the assist torque, on the basis of the position of the rack 6.
