<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a multilayer coating film, capable of achieving excellent smoothness in a 3 wet coating process of applying an aqueous coating material onto an automobile body, even if its electrodeposition coating film is of poor surface smoothness. <P>SOLUTION: The method for forming a multilayer coating film comprising: applying an aqueous intermediate coating material onto an automobile body coated with an electrodeposition coating film and having been subjected to a baking treatment (a process (i)); carrying out setting (a process (ii)), and carrying out predrying (a process (iii)); subsequently applying aqueous base coating material thereonto; further applying clear coating film thereonto; and heating and curing the resulting intermediate coating film, base coating film and clear coating film at the same time, is characterized in that the viscosity of the coating film formed of the aqueous intermediate coating material and the content of nonvolatile components present therein are each within a specified range respectively, immediately after the process (i) and immediately before the process (iii). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
