METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING TRANSVERSE ELEMENTS OF A DRIVE BELT

The invention concerns a method for manufacturing a transverse element (32) with a corrugated contact surface (37) with ridges (43) and grooves (44) for a drive belt (3) for a continuously variable transmission with pulleys (1, 2), which drive belt (3) comprises a plurality of such transverse elements (32) that are mounted slideably along the circumference of an endless tension element (31). The method comprises the process steps of cutting a basic shape of the transverse element (32) from base material and of polishing the transverse element (32) in a barrel polishing process. In the process step of cutting the ridges (43) of the corrugated contact surface (37) of the transverse element (32) are formed with raised edges (45) that protrude relative to a central part (46) of the ridge (43) that is located in-between the said raised edges (45) thereof.
