<PICT:0350643/III/1> Ammonia synthesis apparatus comprises upper and lower chambers A, B separated by a disc D which constitutes the support for a reaction chamber and a heat exchanger arranged on opposite sides of the disc. All the interior parts are constructed so that they p are free to expand without straining the outer shell or one another. The reaction mixture enters at 1 and after traversing the lower chamber A passes through perforations E to the upper chamber, where it flows around baffles 6, 7 before entering the reaction chamber 9. A heating element surrounds this chamber. The products pass down tube 10 to the annular vessel 2 wherein they undergo heat exchange to the surrounding incoming gas, and leave the apparatus at 13. |
