PURPOSE: A diimonium based compound for near infrared absorption capable of showing excellent durability for long term use and an optical filter including the same are provided to enhance absorption in near-infrared radiation region. CONSTITUTION: A diimonium based compound absorbs near infrared ray and is represented by chemical formula 1. In the chemical formula(1), R1-R8 are respectively selected from hydrogen, substituted or non-substituted C1-15 alkyl group, substituted or non-substituted C1-6 alkoxy group, substituted or non-substituted C4-12 aryl group, substituted or non-substituted C1-15 alkylsulfonic acid and substituted or non-substituted C1-15 alkylnitro group.
