<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phase difference element having high light transmissivity and high birefringence. <P>SOLUTION: A birefringent film 20 is formed by allowing a material steam to reach a transparent substrate 1 from an oblique direction and alternately laminating first light refraction films 21 and second light refraction films 23 containing Ta<SB POS="POST">2</SB>0<SB POS="POST">5</SB>and Ti0<SB POS="POST">2</SB>. The proportion of Ti to a total amount of Ta and Ti (Ti/(Ta+Ti)) of the birefringent film 20 is 4.0 atm.% to 30 atm.%, and blue light among visible light has high light transmittance and large birefringence. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
