PURPOSE: A method and system for improving the fuel efficiency and driving performance of a vehicle are provided to increase a fuel cut-off range as an engine stops even when engine RPM in coasting operation does not exceed the specific engine RPM. CONSTITUTION: A method for improving the fuel efficiency and driving performance of a vehicle comprises following steps. An engine controller(100) sets power delivered to additional devices(300) related to an engine(200) as rotary force delivered from a driving shaft and transmission(500). The present traveling speed of the vehicle is compared with the specific traveling speed set in advance. An engine stops while the rotary force delivered from the driving shaft and transmission is changed into a wheel power transmission path when the present traveling speed is above the specific traveling speed.
