A device (1) for collecting a mass at a surface (21) of a body of water (2) is described, wherein the device (1) comprises: a collecting body (11); and a storage device (12) structured in a manner allowing it to hold on to the collecting body (11), and wherein the storage device (12) is adjustable between a locked position and an open position, wherein the collecting body (11), when in the open position, is released at least partially from the storage device (12), characterized in that: - the storage device (12) is provided with anchoring means (123) structured in a manner allowing it to anchor the storage device (12) within the body of water (2); and - wherein the collecting body (11) is provided with a first buoyant body (112) structured in a manner allowing it to bring the collecting body (11) to a surface position within the body of water (2) when the storage device (12) is adjusted to the open position thereof. Moreover, a method for collecting a mass at a surface (21) of a body of water (2) is described, wherein the method makes use of the device (1). Further, a use of a container (12) for storing booms (11) on a seabed (22) is also described.
