<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing apparatus capable of further highly accurately detecting a normal contact and an abnormal short circuit between the printing apparatus and a printing material container which is attachable and detachable to the printing apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: A printing apparatus 1000 includes a first detection terminal 550 and a second detection terminal 590 which contact with respective two first terminals 250 and 290 of each of printing material containers CS1 and CS2; a third detection terminal 510 and a fourth detection terminal 540 which contact with respective two second terminals 210 and 240 of each of the printing material containers; a first detection unit 667 which detects a first detection signal SPins from the first detection terminal via a first attachment detection path; and a second detection unit 670 which detects a second detection signal DPins output from the third detection terminal via a second attachment detection path.
