<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a recognition rate in recognizing magnetic ink characters. <P>SOLUTION: A check reader 1 that comprises a check carrying mechanism 30, a magnetic head 54 and a control part 71 executes steps of: acquiring an integrated value by sequentially integrating a value of each sampled signal waveform data obtained by using the magnetic head 54 to magnetically read magnetic ink characters recorded in a check 4 to be carried; detecting a change point, where the integrated value increases after decreasing, in the signal waveform data; determining a character segmentation start position for one magnetic ink character on the basis of a position of the change point; segmenting character waveform data in a range corresponding to the magnetic ink character from the signal waveform data; and executing magnetic ink character recognition to the segmented character waveform data. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
