PURPOSE: A composition containing diphlorethohydroxycarmalol extracted from Ishige okamurae is provided to prevent and treat liver injury caused by carbon tetrachloride. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing or treating liver injury contains DPHC(diphlorethohydroxycarmalol) of chemical formula 1 or pharmaceutical acceptable salts thereof as an active ingredient. The compound is derived from Ishige okamurae plants. The composition for preventing or treating liver injury contains Ishige okamurae plant extract as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared using water, methanol, ethanol, propanol, isopropanol, butanol, acetone, ether, benzene, chloroform, ethyl acetate, methylene chloride, n-hexane, hydrochloric acid, acetic acid, formic acid, citric acid, diethyl ether, or cyclohexane. A functional food for preventing or treating liver injury contains DPHC or the extract containing the same as an active ingredient.
