Moving picture communication system 100 comprising a telephone 102 connected 108 to a communications network 22 that makes voice calls, receives and/or transmits compressed video data, and inputs and/or outputs compressed video via a port, and a separate video processor 106 comprising a port for inputting compressed video from and/or outputting compressed video to the telephone, wherein the video processor is configured to decompress compressed video from the telephone port 104 and/or compress decompressed video from a video source (camera), and the video processor is controlled by the telephone. Voice and video data may be synchronised using clocks, by inserting message-controlled delays, with the current time appended to signals passed between the telephone and image processor. The telephone may be powered via a network (Ethernet) connection only. The processor may have a display 118 and be powered by mains supply. Mixed video from the camera and/or computer and/or external source may be displayed and output in the compressed video. The processor may be housed separately from the telephone. |
