<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably detect a startup error in an information processing apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: Different memory devices are connected to CPUs 108 and 117, respectively. Each of the CPUs identifies to which stage of startup stages it has proceeded when started up, and writes the identified startup stage into the memory device connected to the other CPU as startup information.
