PURPOSE: A flexible power steering device and a method for controlling the same is provided to secure the need of steering effort of a user by applying gradual tuning method. CONSTITUTION: A flexible power steering device comprises a torque sensor(16), a motor(10), an user mode selection switch(20), and an ECU(14). The motor transfers the steering force of a steering wheel. The user mode selection switch is composed of a standard mode switch(21), a sports mode switch(22), and a comfort mode switch(23). The ECU stores motor current map according to each user mod and receives the signals of the user mode selection switch.
