The accessory (1) has a rigid frame (10) mounted on a forklift truck. A gripping unit (20) allows gripping of a container i.e. barrel (5), made of metal or plastics. The gripping unit comprises fixed bars connected to the frame, and form support arms (22), and movable chuck jaws (23) extend and face toward the fixed bars. The chuck jaws are moved alternatively in a direction and spaced from the fixed bars for tightening the container longitudinally in order to lift/transport the container or for loosening the container in order to maintain the container in a rest state.
