<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To guide a high-energy laser beam while suppressing end-surface damage in an optical fiber during photoacoustic imaging to be performed by guiding a laser beam using the optical fiber. <P>SOLUTION: A photoacoustic imaging apparatus includes: a diffuser plate 12 which diffuses a laser beam Lo made incident from the upstream side of an optical system; a focusing lens system 13 which focuses the laser beam Lo that has been diffused by the diffuser plate 12; and an optical fiber cable 14 which contains optical fibers 41 having a core/cladding structure, has a light energy resistant structure 43 at an end on the side of the focusing lens system 13, and is disposed to make the laser beam Lo focused by the focusing lens system 13 incident from one end.
