PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element satisfying high degree of orientation, high external quantum efficiency and low drive voltage.

SOLUTION: An organic electroluminescent element contains a non-liquid crystalline flat luminescent material with 3 or more of (molecular length/molecular thickness) and a non-liquid crystalline flat host material with 3 or more of (molecular length/molecular thickness) in a luminescent layer, where the dipole moment Dg of the luminescent material and the dipole moment Dh of the host material satisfy ¾Dg-Dh¾<1.
