<p>A system and method are disclosed for detecting a target such as a person within a scene. The system comprises a sensor for acquiring a hyperspectral image of the scene; a repository for storing a set of target spectra of, for example, types of clothing; and a processor for processing spectra generated from locations within the scene with the known set of target spectra. The processor is further arranged to generate a map of a probability that the spectra generated from locations within the scene correspond with one or more target spectra based on the comparison between the spectra generated from locations within the scene with the target spectra. The system may additionally comprise a thermal imaging sensor for acquiring a thermal image of the scene. The targets identified from the hyperspectral image may be highlighted on a view of the scene. The processing of the hyperspectral image may comprise matched filter processing.</p> |
