<p>The present invention relates to an apparatus (10) for performing a centrifugal field-flow fractionation having a rotor (10a) rotatable about a shaft (61) by a driving means, the shaft being supported at either end by a support (24a/b). The driving means comprises a DC electric motor, and the shaft is rotatably supported by a radial roller bearing (34a'/b') positioned between the shaft and the support. Each of the bearings is mounted in a support. One of the bearings is axially fixed both with respect to the support and with respect to the shaft, the other being axially fixed with respect to the support only. Each of the bearings is arranged to support a load in both axial directions. The roller elements are made of a different material than the inner and outer raceways of the bearing. Further, the bearings are non-lubricated.</p> |
