<p>A cot having two end walls and a base 32 comprises: two side walls [4,6 Fig. 1] with at least a portion of one of the side walls, e.g. hinged gates 12,14, being moveable between open and closed positions; a locking means 24 in the form of an elongate member slideably moveable between locked and unlocked positions; and a first retaining means comprising a first portion e.g. spring biased push button 31, associated with the cot and a second portion, e.g. aperture 30, associated with the elongate member 24 and which are mutually and co-operatively engageable to retain the lock in a closed position. The locking mechanism 24 may be guided by grooves and may be operable using one hand. Second retaining means, e.g. a spring biased ball catch, may be provided to retain the locking means in an open position. In a further embodiment the frames 17 of each gate 12, 14 further comprise ground engaging supports 18, 20 to ensure that the cot 2 is stable whilst the gates 12, 14 are open. In a further embodiment, the cot 2 comprises a second locking means [shown in Figs 11 and 12] which is actuated by the first locking means 24, and which locks the gates 12, 14 to the base 32 of the cot 2, and prevents vertical movement of the base 32 with respect to the side gates 12, 14 to ensure that it is not possible for an infant to become trapped or injured.</p> |
